Once again, how does this seem reasonable?
We just blogged a few weeks ago about a child driving drunk adults home and here is yet another case of it:
An Australian man who was drunk allegedly allowed his seven year old son to drive them home. Police stopped the vehicle in Queensland on June 21st when it drove past them in the dark without its headlights being operational. Police were shocked when they saw the boy at the wheel and the man drunk in the passenger seat. I guess the 41 year old father was trying to avoid being charged with a DUI since he reasoned he wasn’t actually operating the vehicle. Nonetheless, he was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and adult in charge under the influence of liquor, the AAP reported. It has also been reported that the child is now living with relatives and his father is due in court in July.
Forget about the fact that a 7 year old is not old enough to have a valid driver’s license. Why would an adult, especially his own father, expose him to that kind of risk and danger? Is he selfish, drunk or stupid? Or perhaps a mixture of all three? It’s obvious that a 7 year old doesn’t have the physical or mental capabilities to operate a car safely yet his father, for whatever reason, thought it made sense. Not his best parenting moment.
