A Pennsylvania Judge sentenced Lawrence Konyves to 5 to 10 years for his 13th DUI. A plea deal was rejected by the Judge for Konyves to serve time partially in a county jail and partially in an in-patient facility. Instead he was sentenced to serve all his jail time in a Pennsylvania state prison. Konyves first PA DUI conviction dates back to 1984 when he just 16 years old. It is not uncommon for a DUI offender with numerous past DUI convictions to serve a lengthy state prison sentence. This is due in part to Pennsylvania DUI law mandatory minimums for incarceration and the DUI offender’s prior record score. Additionally, with numerous DUI convictions a Judge may deem a DUI offender not amenable to treatment therefore a lengthy state prison sentence as the only appropriate resolution. A lengthy jail sentence also ensures the protection of the public from drunk drivers on the roadways of Pennsylvania. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
